Blue Coat Leads EMEA and Worldwide Content Security Gateway Appliance Markets

April 2011 by Marc Jacob

Blue Coat Systems, Inc., a provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions, today announced that it was the worldwide market leader in Content Security Gateway Appliances in 2010, according to the latest report from Infonetics Research. Blue Coat also led the market in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) with 35.7 percent market share, nearly double that of its nearest competitor. Blue Coat has led the worldwide and EMEA markets every year since 2006, when Infonetics first began reporting market share numbers for Content Security Gateway Appliances.

Infonetics forecasts that the worldwide Content Security Gateway Appliance market will grow 31 percent, from $1.6 billion in 2010, to $2.1 billion in 2014, and that the EMEA market will grow 30 percent, from $354 million in 2010, to $459 million in 2014.

A condensed version of the report is available at www.bluecoat.com/doc/16044.

The Blue Coat Secure Web Gateway solution delivers immediate security intelligence through an architecture that combines presence at the corporate Web gateway with a collaborative cloud-based community. By uniting more than 70 million users in the Blue Coat® WebPulse™ service, the Blue Coat solution delivers industry-leading Web awareness and extensible defenses that provide seamless protection for customers. This collaborative defense enables businesses to consistently enforce corporate IT policies worldwide and to protect their networks against Web-based malware.

In January, Blue Coat introduced the ProxyOne™ appliance that integrates Web filtering, inline anti-virus and malware scanning and reporting on a single platform that is backed by the WebPulse service. The ProxyOne appliance extends the same enterprise-class Web security technology used by 88 percent of the FORTUNE Global 500 to organizations with limited IT resources.

In February, Blue Coat also introduced its Internet-delivered Web security solution, the Blue Coat Cloud Service, which will be commercially available in April. The service, which also utilizes WebPulse technology, provides comprehensive, real-time Web protection that can be managed and deployed from anywhere in the world to protect users globally. It also provides granular social media application controls that allow organizations to flexibly manage and safely use social networking tools.

With the Blue Coat Cloud Service, ProxyOne appliance and Secure Web Gateway solution, all backed by the WebPulse service, Blue Coat can meet the security challenges of companies of all sizes around the world.
