Blockchain: the solution to fight cyberattacks?

In today’s interconnected world, infrastructure cybersecurity has become a major concern. Cyberattacks are multiplying and becoming increasingly sophisticated, putting sensitive data at risk. Traditional networks are vulnerable and regularly threatened by cyber-attacks, which can take many different forms. The consequences can be devastating, ranging from financial loss to violation of privacy, or even the paralysis of critical infrastructures. Here are a few recent examples from different business sectors:

– Public administration: Agen City Hall was the victim of a cyber attack on Sunday June 2, affecting several servers, especially the mail server.
– Health: Rennes University Hospital was the victim of a cyber attack on June 21, paralyzing its website, messaging systems and intranet.
– Airport: Montpellier airport (Hérault) was hit by a cyber attack on the night of Saturday July 1 to Sunday July 2.
– Private: Automatic Systems, a Belgian company specializing in security gantries and a subsidiary of the Bolloré Group, was the victim of a ransomware cyberattack.
Faced with this growing threat of online crime, the global cost of which will reach $10.5 billion a year by 2025, blockchain is emerging as a promising technology for strengthening online security. As it is decentralized, blockchain is less vulnerable to attack. This is because data is distributed across an entire shared network model, known as peer-to-peer, making the possibilities of attack slower and more difficult.
