Bee Ware in its « Competitive Landscape: Web Application Firewall Market, Worldwide, 2012 », study’Gartner

September 2012 by Marc Jacob

Return to work looks promising for Bee Ware. The French software editor specialized in Web security is part of the competitive players evaluated in Gartner’s study dedicated to the Web application firewall worldwide market.
Gartner analyst Lawrence Pingree, backed by 16 years of experience in IT industry, data protection and security, makes a worldwide market analysis on Web application firewall market in his June 29 “Competitive Landscape: Web Application Firewall Market, Worldwide,2012” study.

The WAF technology market reached an estimated $278 million in 2011, with growth of 17% over 2010. The web application firewall market keeps growing in 2012, supported by the PCI DSS standards (describing the security requirements for the vendors and service providers who store, process or transmit cardholder data) and the HIPAA standards (legislated by the American government and providing patient private life protection, especially by imposing a high security level in information transfer and spreading among health providers).

Web application firewalls provide an improved protection to Web application as all data passing through HTTP and HTTPS protocols are examined, assessed and processed. As Lawrence Pingree explains in his study, the Web application firewalls market is “emerging as the best way to fight hacktivist-motivated Web attacks on a worldwide basis”. The restrictions involved some years ago concerning the installation of those protection means are now obsolete thanks to innovations made in this field:

? Deploying a Web application firewall does not cause anymore disruptions, neither in the company business nor in the adjustments of the security policies

? The deployment costs have been significantly reduced, as well as the maintenance costs

? Once deployed, their configuration(s), administration(s) and update(s) have been greatly simplified.

Previously offered as appliances or virtual machines, Web application firewalls are today adopting the SecaaS, or Security as a Service, model. This model benefits both the supplier (fewer resources are needed to install and configure the firewall) and the buyer (less spending related to the initial investment as well as a reduction of the administration cost.

Ahead of tomorows’ trends, Bee Ware right now offers its Web Application Firewall on the SecaaS model (in addition to its appliance and virtual machine offers). Relying on a centralized administration station, Bee Ware’s Web Application Firewall (WAF) is based on the same graphical interface as the other range products and can in this respect be improved by complementary features (XML firewalls (Web Services Firewall or WSF), reinforced authentication (Web Access Management or WAM), content acceleration and optimization).

Mentioned in Gartner “Competitive Landscape: Web Application Firewall Market, Worldwide, 2012” study, Bee Ware is now recognized as a part of the representative worldwide player sample present in the Web application firewall market. Bee Ware believes Gartner’s evaluation is a testament to its ability to develop a state of the art technology and an international recognition.
