Appian Selected to U.S. Department of Defense Mobile App Store as Part of Mission Effectiveness Strategy

August 2014 by Marc Jacob

Appian announced that its powerful Mobile BPM platform is now available through the Department of Defense (DOD) Mobile Application Store (MAS). MAS, maintained by the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), is designed to optimize the functionality of DOD applications on mobile devices while minimizing replication, cost, and downtime. Appian was among the first mobile app providers to be selected for inclusion in the store.

As part of the overall DISA Digital Strategy, mobile applications are a critical component of federal defense services and will allow for new opportunities to improve agency-wide mission effectiveness. The application store supports 1,800 unclassified mobile devices to-date in a limited roll out and will support up to 100,000 users by the end of fiscal 2014, according to DISA. Only devices managed by DOD will have access to the application store, minimizing security risk.

Appian applications integrate business process management software, enterprise data navigation, and native mobility through a simple collaborative interface to accelerate decisions, increase productivity and improve mission attainment. Through code-free application composition, Appian provides the fastest way to deliver new applications across a broad range of agency processes for all branches of the DOD. All Appian applications are natively mobile on all popular platforms with zero additional development or maintenance cost.

With Appian’s native mobile apps, users can communicate, take action, send requests, receive notifications, and integrate with existing CRM, ERP, and database systems. Appian’s mobile BPM capabilities quickly modernize processes and systems for the latest mobile devices allowing today’s worker to make mission critical decisions from anywhere, at any time. Appian’s SAIL (Self-Assembling Interface Layer) technology ensures the best end-user experience on any device by enabling developers to rapidly create and deploy dynamic and engaging user interfaces.

"Helping the DOD modernize processes to accelerate mission attainment is in Appian’s DNA," said Chris O’Connell, Vice President of Federal Sales at Appian. "Our participation in DOD MAS provides all branches the ability to take advantage of modern mobile apps that can be deployed across the entire workforce."
