Aberdeen Group to Announce Global SoMoClo Research and Education Program at Mobile World Congress

February 2012 by Marc Jacob

Aberdeen Group, a Harte-Hanks Company, will announce, from the site of the 2012 GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the launch of its global SoMoClo(TM) research and executive education program. The objective of the program is to educate Chief Information Officers (CIOs), Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), and other C-level executives, about the Aberdeen SoMoClo converged IT model and strategy that envisions social, mobile and cloud technologies as a single, interwoven platform to be considered and managed as a coherent entity, rather than three separate IT silos.

Details of the Aberdeen Group research and education program, "SoMoClo Evolution," will be delivered on Wednesday, February 29, at 3:30pm Central European Time (GMT +1), at the Hotel Arts sessions sponsored by the Aricent Group. The program will be conducted on the 40th floor, Marina 19-41, 08005 Barcelona. Presenters will include Russ Klein, Vice President of Research Strategy for the Aberdeen Group, and Andrew Borg, Research Director for the Aberdeen Group Enterprise Communications research practice and Mobility Center of Excellence. In addition to the delivery of a SoMoClo summary, an overview of the 2012 educational events will be provided. The program will feature both virtual events and live roundtables in cities throughout the United States, United Kingdom, Europe and Asia, including London (April 2) and London’s Tech City (April 3), and Las Vegas, NV (May 7-9).

SoMoClo presents a converged vision for IT infrastructure: cloud is the core, mobility its edge, and social the connection through the cloud between mobile endpoints. It places these three disruptive technologies in context, and describes the technical and services infrastructure that will allow organizations to provide an end-user experience in which all employees are connected (social), everywhere they go (mobile), and have access to data when and where they need it (cloud). It reframes business and technology infrastructure decisions in a unified model, and repositions IT as a facilitator of the future of the business.

"SoMoClo provides a strategic roadmap for the real challenges facing IT executives with regard to the convergence of social mobile and cloud technologies," states Borg.

According to Klein, "By addressing social, mobile, and cloud technologies as a single entity, SoMoClo consolidates the significant variables for the technology purchase and support decisions that CIOs and CTOs will make in the coming months and years, and, as such, creates the opportunity for radical, positive business transformation."

"We are excited to be part of this initiative. It will provide a deeper understanding of our customers’ challenges as they are keen on creating a seamless user experience across multiple devices and networks that are all leveraging the ubiquitous applications hosted on public and private clouds," said Tim Leberecht, Chief Marketing Officer for the Aricent Group.

"As an enterprise mobility company, we work with hundreds of global customers as they rely on our platform to own and drive their mobile initiatives," said Steve Levy, Chief Executive Officer, Verivo Software. "Aberdeen’s SoMoClo concept not only validates what we hear from our user-base, but it will also help influence buying decisions and platform offerings as enterprise mobility grows in popularity."
