Relevance of Android antivirus software
The continuous efforts of Google to secure the Android probably make it the most secure mass market operating system available today. The latest versions even provide basic antivirus functionality. Unfortunately, only 7 percent run the latest Android version (Nougat). Not everyone can afford a new mobile device every year. People running older Android versions and open source platform variants, significantly increase protection by installing a third-party Android antivirus. Our 2017 Mobile Security Report shows that even devices running Android 6 (Marshmallow) really benefit from the added protection of an Android antivirus.

Ideally an Android antivirus app protects the user from installing malicious apps, surfing to bad websites, audits app permissions, blocks unwanted SMS & Calls, helps to find/locate lost or stolen devices and backs up personal files. Additionally the antivirus should not drain the battery and have no (or few) false alarms. Eight solutions blocked over 99% of all malware: https://www.av-comparatives.org/mobile-security/
