Vineyard Networks and Napatech to Demonstrate 20Gbps Deep Packet Inspection Solution at Government Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (GFirst) National Conference

August 2012 by Marc Jacob

Vineyard Networks and Napatech today announced the coming demonstration of 20 Gbps Deep Packet Inspection (DPI)-enabled intelligent network analysis adapters at the eighth annual Government Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams (GFirst) National Conference, being held August 19 through 24 in Atlanta. The conference is designed to familiarize public and private sector leaders serving in non-technical roles with the fundamentals of cybersecurity and incident response.

The numbers of users, devices and, perhaps most critically, applications and application traffic on enterprise networks are growing exponentially, in both fixed and mobile network environments, with no end in sight. Many of these applications are neither critical to business processes nor aligned with industry-standard security- and performance criteria. Lack of visibility into application types and performance characteristics leaves network management organizations open to a wide and growing variety of security risks and vulnerabilities and impedes efficient and effective network use.

The demonstration at GFirst will highlight the combined technologies of Vineyard Networks and Napatech, and the opportunities that they present to appliance vendors seeking to offer application-aware network security, monitoring, traffic-management and optimization solutions. Independent development of such capabilities requires an often prohibitively costly and time-consuming investment in hardware development, firmware programming and advanced application recognition software development.

Vineyard’s NAVL (Network Application Visibility Library) is a next-generation DPI software engine that provides real-time Layer 7 classification of network traffic. NAVL uses a combination of deep packet and deep flow inspection techniques to accurately identify today’s most common applications including mobile, social networking, P2P, instant messaging, file sharing and other enterprise and cloud-delivered applications.

Napatech intelligent network adapters provide full line-rate capture and transmission from 1 Gbps to 40 Gbps with zero packet loss. In addition, Napatech network adapters provide layer 1-4 flow recognition, filtering and distribution to up to 64 server CPU cores for optimal utilization of available CPU resources.
