SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
An attacker can force a Puppet Enterprise client to connect to a
fake server not TLS, to obtain his session cookie, in order to
connect to the server and to obtain sensitive information.
– Impacted products: Puppet.
– Severity: 2/4.
– Creation date: 09/12/2015.
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The Puppet Enterprise product uses JSESSIONID cookies to identify
the session of authenticated users.
However, this cookie does not have the Secure flag, which means it
is also sent in clear text in HTTP streams not encapsulated by TLS.
An attacker can therefore force a Puppet Enterprise client to
connect to a fake server not TLS, to obtain his session cookie, in
order to connect to the server and to obtain sensitive information.
