Vigil@nce - Linux kernel: information disclosure via evdev_handle_get_val
January 2015 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
A local attacker can read a memory fragment via
evdev_handle_get_val(), in order to obtain sensitive information
of the Linux kernel.
Impacted products: Linux
Severity: 1/4
Creation date: 20/01/2015
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The evdev driver manages input devices, such as keyboard and mouse.
However, the evdev_handle_get_val() function of the
drivers/input/evdev.c file, which is called via the EVIOCG ioctl,
does not initialize a memory area before returning it to the user.
A local attacker can therefore read a memory fragment via
evdev_handle_get_val(), in order to obtain sensitive information
of the Linux kernel.
