Vigil@nce - Linux kernel: information disclosure via media_enum_entities
June 2014 by Vigil@nce
This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer
SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY
A local attacker can use the ioctl of the media_enum_entities()
function of the Linux kernel, in order to read memory fragments,
which may obtain sensitive information.
Impacted products: Linux
Severity: 1/4
Creation date: 10/06/2014
DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY
The media driver of the Linux kernel supports multimedia devices.
The media_device_enum_entities() function of the
drivers/media/media-device.c file lists devices. However, the
media_entity_desc structure is not initialized, before being
returned to the user space.
A local attacker can therefore use the ioctl for the
media_enum_entities() function of the Linux kernel, in order to
read memory fragments, which may obtain sensitive information.
