Vigil@nce - GnuTLS: memory corruption via ECC

November 2014 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : http://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can generate a memory corruption via ECC of GnuTLS, in
order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to execute code.

 Impacted products: Fedora, MBS, openSUSE, RHEL, Ubuntu, Unix
(platform)
 Severity: 2/4
 Creation date: 12/11/2014

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The GnuTLS library implements SSL/TLS.

The _gnutls_ecc_ansi_x963_export() function of the
lib/gnutls_ecc.c file exports a certificate using ECC (Elliptic
Curve Cryptography) to format X9.63. However, a malicious
certificate corrupts the memory.

An attacker can therefore generate a memory corruption via ECC of
GnuTLS, in order to trigger a denial of service, and possibly to
execute code.
