Vigil@nce - Cisco Web Security Appliance: denial of service via Native FTP

August 2016 by Vigil@nce

This bulletin was written by Vigil@nce : https://vigilance.fr/offer

SYNTHESIS OF THE VULNERABILITY

An attacker can raise high CPU use via the Native FTP proxy of
Cisco Web Security Appliance, in order to trigger a denial of
service.

Impacted products: AsyncOS, Cisco WSA.

Severity: 2/4.

Creation date: 28/06/2016.

DESCRIPTION OF THE VULNERABILITY

The Cisco Web Security Appliance product offers a FTP proxy
service.

However, when the FTP client terminates the command connection
after data transfers over the data connections, the product enters
in a loop that overloads the CPU.

An attacker can therefore raise high CPU use via the Native FTP
proxy of Cisco Web Security Appliance, in order to trigger a
denial of service.
