Proximus selects Openmind’s Traffic Control for legacy SMSC virtualisation

February 2016 by Marc Jacob

Openmind Networks announced that leading Belgian operator Proximus has deployed Openmind’s consolidated Traffic Control Platform to replace its legacy SMSC and SMS Firewall in a virtualised environment. The deployment in Proximus’ datacentres was fully migrated and accepted over an 11 month period.

Replacing its legacy infrastructure with Openmind’s Traffic Control platform will allow Proximus to consolidate all messaging functions onto a single virtualised platform, reducing the Tier 1 European operator’s hardware footprint and the inherent OPEX costs. The deployment of Openmind’s Protect module alongside SMSC will also benefit Proximus’ subscribers by preventing the delivery of spam and fraudulent content.

“Openmind has been an agile and reliable partner in helping us to achieve full virtualisation for our messaging infrastructure across our network,” said Laurent Meertens, Domain Manager, Messaging & Communication Services, Proximus. “The new high-performance and very flexible platform from Openmind allows us to not only make savings through consolidation, but also implement new, innovative services for our customers. This opens perspectives to further expanding and improving our services with Openmind’s technology.”

“Given the current competitive market for operators, Proximus wanted to rapidly virtualise and consolidate its services in order to prepare for future innovation whilst reducing unnecessary Opex costs,” said Alex Duncan CEO of Openmind Networks. “Openmind’s Traffic Control Platform allowed Proximus to begin this journey in just 11 months. In a complex environment such a rapid migration and acceptance period highlights the robustness and scalability of Openmind’s technology. We are delighted to be working with the operator and will continue to help drive innovation through virtualisation across the network.”
