Michigan Healthcare Information Exchange Adopts Kantara Initiative Identity Assurance Framework

September 2009 by Marc Jacob

Kantara Initiative announced that the Michigan Healthcare Information Exchange has adopted the Kantara Initiative Identity Assurance Framework (IAF) as its trust framework for ensuring policy interoperability across identity-enabled healthcare applications and services.

The technology agnostic Kantara IAF details four levels of identity assurance in one trust framework, to make it easier and faster for organizations to establish and expand trusted, secure and privacy-respecting identity federations based on standardized identity assurance criteria. With today’s news, the Michigan Healthcare Information Exchange will require hospitals and healthcare providers participating in the exchange to have identity services certified to the IAF within the Kantara Initiative Identity Assurance Certification Program. The IAF is overviewed here, along with an image of the four levels of identity assurance outlined in the framework. http://tinyurl.com/r6le4r.
