Industry comment from Arbor Networks - torrent site DDoS attacks
September 2017 by Arbor Networks
Following the news that dozens of torrent sites went offline following a surge in
traffic and subsequent DDoS
attacks, Kirill Kasavchenko, Principal Security Technologist,
EMEA at Arbor Networks, comments:
"The targets of DDoS attacks are ever evolving, and cyber criminals are always on
the lookout for new avenues of growth. These latest attacks show that any popular
website is at risk of being taken offline, especially during times of peak activity.
This could mean websites losing their audience to competitors if they are unable to
minimise the disruption.
For torrent sites, users might move over to legitimate sources who have invested in
more robust anti-DDoS solutions."
