ISM involved with first new-build custody suite for recently established Police Scotland

September 2014 by Marc Jacob

ISM, in collaboration with systems integrator, Scotshield announce a fully integrated custody security management system for Police Scotland at the new Kittybrewster facility in Aberdeen. The new custody suite, circa £11 million, includes 60 cells, a virtual court, an identity parade suite and accommodation for a local community policing team. Police Scotland, (established 1st April 2013, the second largest force in the UK after the Metropolitan Police), is responsible for policing the length and breadth of Scotland, encompassing some 28,168 square miles.

The newly completed custody suite includes a number of security subsystems integrated into one easily managed PSIM solution (Genesys2), including CCTV, access control, intercoms, affray alarms, intruder detection, fire detection and cell call.

Genesys2 facilitates the integration of third-party hardware on a single software platform. Its many benefits include a user-friendly GUI showing real-time active icons enabling users to see the activity and events as and when they happen. A complex log enables managers to produce audit trails. True system interoperability is accomplished via an action list application. This enables every device for each system to interact via cause and effect scenarios with graphical maps and memos/instructions relating to the individual alarms, which are then communicated to the operators. All events are automatically triggered when a device changes state. Human error is therefore eliminated.

Commenting on the project, ISM’s Business Development Director, John Waite, said, “We are delighted to have provided the Genesys integrated security system and our Ultimate 3000 Cell Call system for Police Scotland. This includes many bespoke software features, which contributed to the overall success of the project and is another example of why ISM continues to dominate the supply of PSIM systems to the police sector.”
