IDC : Oracle Recognised as Leader in Western European Business Analytics Sector
January 2008  by Marc Jacob IDC
Oracle retained its position in Western Europe as leader of a €5.2bn Business Analytics space, according to a recent report by International Data Corporation (IDC), the premier global provider of market intelligence.

Oracle’s 13.4 percent share was driven by revenues in excess of €700m in Calendar Year 2006 according to IDC’s report "Western European Business Analytics 2006 Vendor Shares and 2007-2011 Forecast." Oracle’s software revenue grew at 11.2 per-cent — faster than the overall category growth rate of 8.3 percent. Oracle’s closest competitor stands at 10.2 per-cent share.

Oracle’s acquisition of Hyperion in March 2007 has also been recognised by IDC as demonstrating Oracle’s commitment to the business analytics space. The acquisition also led to Oracle’s leadership in Financial Performance and Strategy Management Applications, which is expected to grow at a Compound Annual Growth Rate of 8.5 percent over the next five years.

The business analytics space, as defined by IDC, is divided into two categories: Performance Management (PM) tools and applications and Data Warehousing (DW) platforms. Leading vendors in Western Europe were assessed on 12 criteria, Data Warehousing (DW) generation, DW management, query/reporting/analysis, advanced analytics, spatial information management analytics, financial performance and strategy management applications, Customer Relationship Management (CRM) analytics, workforce analytics, supply chain production planning, services operations analytics and other supply chain analytics.

According to the IDC report, Oracle achieved the highest score for Ability to Gain Share, as a large platform and application player with a strong presence in all market segments it has the best performance across the board.
