Gemalto Achieves latest SECCOS Certification for its Banking Cards in Germany

January 2008 by Marc Jacob

Gemalto announces its Desineo banking card has been certified by the Zentraler Kreditausschuss (ZKA) in compliance with the Secure Chip Card Operating System (SECCOS) version 6.1 specifications. The Gemalto Desineo banking card product is one of the most advanced in the world: it incorporates both banking applications such as the electronic purse Geldkarte and the electronic cash access offline, the Girocard EMV (Europay-MasterCard-Visa) application and the EMV Common Payment Application (CPA). It also integrates the TAN generator functionality for secure home banking, and other applications such as digital signature (certified according to the German Digital Signature act SigG/SigV), electronic ticketing and Marktplatz loyalty.

Desineo Seccos v6.1 leverages Gemalto’s 10 years’ experience in the German banking and healthcare markets and this new certification demonstrates Gemalto’s expertise in developing tailor-made products in compliance with a country’s high security specific standards. Gemalto is one of the first companies to offer a product, evaluated Common Criteria EAL4+ (Evaluation Assurance Level) with a chip certified EAL5+, which incorporates the Common Payment Application. With Desineo Seccos v6.1, German banks will benefit from the highest levels of security and state-of-the-art technology for both credit and debit cards.

Said Bertrand Knopf, senior vice president e-payment at Gemalto: “With this certification, we can offer our German bank customers a very innovative and versatile platform, which will give users secure access to a broad set of on-line and off-line applications. Moreover, the addition of the Common Payment Application capability marks an important milestone to ease SEPA* deployment in Germany.”
