Comprised of senior representatives from strategically important companies in the UK’s defence and security industry, Tech UK’s Defence and Security Board has an active role in the UK’s national security markets and policy areas. The board focuses on addressing the strategic-level concerns that impact the defence and security IT sector.

During his role as chairman over the next two years, Gibson will be meeting regularly with Tech UK’s board members to lay out the strategic communications agendas with the MoD and government. Additionally, as an independent advisor, the board will be working with the Minister of Defence, Mike Stone, on the MoD’s IT strategy.

As SMEs face the challenge of going up against larger competitors in the defence market, a specific focus for the board will be supporting their growth in the sector. Working with the government, the Tech UK’s Defence and Security board aims to create a level playing field for all involved in defence and security by improving its SME members’ understanding of how government policy and organisational changes will impact relevant markets.

Gibson has been a member of Tech UK’s Defence and Security board for the past four years. He has held a wide range of board-level roles since joining International Computers Limited (ILC) in 1979, including the leadership of several major UK and international Business Units. Following Fujitsu’s acquisition of ICL, Gibson headed up the Company’s Offshore Development and Global Bids organisations, before being appointed Business Unit Director for Defence & National Security in 2011. Gibson joined the main board of Fujitsu UK & Ireland in April 2014. Gibson is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and a Member of the Institute of Directors.
