Faster and Easier Identification of Spamming Activities Thanks to ZEROSPAM

December 2014 by Marc Jacob

ZEROSPAM Security is pleased to collaborate with the
CRTC in the fight against spam and to support its efforts in the enforcement of Canada’s
anti-spam legislation (CASL). ZEROSPAM has implemented two new mechanisms that
facilitate and accelerate the reporting of spam and the forwarding of incriminating messages
to enforcement agencies. These automated mechanisms allow clients to submit spam that
has either been received or put in quarantine to the Spam Reporting Centre (SRC), which is
managed by the CRTC. ZEROSPAM is the very first anti-spam solution to integrate a
notification mechanism of this kind to support the new legislation, an endeavor that is entirely
aligned with the CRTC’s mission.

As a top player in the Canadian email security market, ZEROSPAM processes millions of
email messages daily and leverages on this valuable information to establish a link between
their clients and the CRTC. The ZEROSPAM servers scan all messages sent to clients,
separating legitimate emails from those that are undesirable or potentially harmful. A stream
of clean email is then sent to clients. A portion of the rejected messages is put in quarantine
and clients can have access to these messages through a Web interface called Cumulus.

The new version of Cumulus, launched a few days ago, integrates a new “Report to CRTC”
button, which allows ZEROSPAM clients to select one or several spam messages that have
been quarantined and submit them to the SRC. This is the first automated mechanism. The
second is linked to the ZEROSPAM feedback plug-in for Outlook. This tool allows clients to
install a button in Outlook, which, when clicked, reports any spam that managed to infiltrate
their inbox to the company. This plug-in now includes a button that allows clients to send
received spam to the SRC, where the nature and origin of the mail will be analyzed.

“For us, the fight against spam and other email borne threats is a very real battle that our
teams engage in daily with tenacity and dedication. If we can support the CRTC in its efforts
and contribute to stopping certain spammers from doing their dirty work, we will be greatly
satisfied,” says David Poellhuber, president and CEO of ZEROSPAM Security.
