Estonia selects Morpho to implement Avanced Passenger Information-Passenger Name Record (API-PNR) system

Morpho (Safran) has been awarded a major contract from the Estonian government to supply an Advanced Passenger Information/Passenger Name Record (API-PNR) system. Following a contract for a similar system in France in 2014, this new selection marks Morpho’s latest success and first international contract in the growing sector of airline passenger data collection and analysis. Morpho’s new API-PNR system will bolster resources deployed by the Estonian government to ensure safety for citizens.
Passenger name record (PNR) data collates information collected by airlines from passengers during the ticket reservation and booking process. The system to be provided by Morpho includes the personalization, deployment support and maintenance of the MorphoTAS (Traveler Analytics Suite) solution, which ensures the automated processing of API and PNR data. It features Morpho’s latest technologies, to help government agencies report targeted alerts to the appropriate authorities. In addition, Morpho’s solution provides full data protection guarantees, in line with current privacy laws in Estonia and Europe. The development and implementation of Estonian PNR system is co-financed by European union.
Samuel Fringant, Executive Vice President of Morpho’s Security division, said: “We salute the Estonian government for once again choosing avant-garde solutions for safer borders. This latest contract reinforces our already established partnership with the Estonian government. Morpho also advocates a holistic view of data sharing and interface across borders, developing solutions which will ultimately facilitate data exchange on the European level.”
Kristi Laul, Project Manager working for the Estonian Ministry of Internal Affairs, added: "The new system to be created helps Estonian law enforcement agencies to prevent and combat serious cross-border crime, as easier travelling is used by drug dealers, human traffickers, smugglers, etc. The PNR system influences directly the security of society and has a positive effect on internal security. We hope that cooperation with Morpho will be successful and on January 1st, 2016, we will implement an IT solution of great importance for Estonia enhancing the work of the law enforcement agencies and thus, ensuring internal security. With this system, we will be able to better anticipate and isolate targeted risks and threats to the benefit of airports and passengers.”
Morpho provides security systems for a wide range of government agencies and other organizations in Europe and throughout the world. In Estonia, the company’s customers already include the police (Estonian Forensic Science Institute) and the Ministry of the Interior.
