Device Authority launches platform with Automated Password Management & PKI at IoT scale

June 2017 by Marc Jacob

Device Authority has announced the latest update of its IoT security platform. One of the first products to deliver password management and Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates to devices without human intervention, KeyScaler version 5.5 is set to dramatically streamline and strengthen the ways in which organizations secure their connected devices.

KeyScaler is Device Authority’s flagship integrated IoT security platform that combines secure device registration and provisioning, credential management and end to end policy-driven encryption. This enables organizations to manage the security of the IoT ecosystems both at scale and through periods of rapid growth.

Version 5.5 introduces unique Automated Password Management (APM) technology to tackle the real-world challenges organisations are facing today with cyberattacks involving connected devices.

In 2016, 63% of data breach incidents were related to weak credentials, and recent large scale attacks Mirai and BrickerBot used weak credentials as their exploit vector. Notably, the video surveillance market has experienced the consequences with cameras being compromised. KeyScaler’s APM reduces the headache and removes the associated human risks of manually updating credentials on hundreds or thousands of IoT devices.

KeyScaler also includes an Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT PKI connector; automated provisioning of PKI certificates to any connected device on an organization’s network, independent of manufacture-provisioned keys. PKI certificates provide a strong framework for identifying and authenticating individual devices, and are regarded by many experts as the first step to securing the entire IoT ecosystem. However, provisioning these certificates manually becomes time-consuming and cumbersome at IoT scale. Amazon Web Services (AWS) IoT customers can leverage the technology and KeyScaler private certificate signing to solve device provisioning and credential management problems through the AWS Marketplace.

Device Authority’s automated solution drives efficiencies and reduces human error, while also enabling Certificate Authorities (CA) to offer their certificates directly through the KeyScaler platform.

Gartner has predicted that, by 2020, over a quarter of all identified enterprise attacks will involve IoT, and warns that as the IoT continues to grow, vendors still favour usability over security. KeyScaler™ ensures that organizations can achieve both.

KeyScaler version 5.5 is available from July 10th 2017.
