Couting down – This year’s SNW Europe looks set to be better than ever
September 2010 by Marc Jacob
As preparations for this year’s SNW Europe, Datacenter Technologies and Virtualization World conferences continue, last year’s success looks set to be bested by an impressive line-up of sponsors and speakers. SNIA Europe and Angel Business Communications’ approach of not only focussing on storage but also on other industry sectors and complementary technologies, proved a significant draw in 2009 and sees more industry professionals keen to be a part of the action in 2010. The conferences held this year on 26th and 27th October at Congress Frankfurt, will feature presentations by industry experts, demonstrations of new products and information on the latest technology developments.
The high quality of the sponsors and presentations, and the opportunity to network with industry peers and educators, has been drawing Europe’s most influential journalists, bloggers and analysts since 2004 to the event. Tutorials and a panel discussion on ‘FCoE: The arrival of the new data center’ will be met with enthusiasm by the delegates, while the opportunity to meet with end users will give sponsors the chance to demonstrate their value to the industry and to advise current and potential customers on topical issues.
“It is easy to understand why SNW Europe and its two co-located events are seen by many in the industry as the highlight of the year and they are expected once again to be a hubbub of activity in all areas,” said Paul Trowbridge, marketing director for the three events marketed under the banner ‘The Power of 3’.
SNIA Europe will be hosting a wide range of its educational tutorials on topics such as virtualisation, data protection, business continuity and cloud computing, seen by many as this year’s hot topic. Support for the three co-located conferences so far consists of more than 50 impressive sponsors, with names including:

An exciting addition to this year’s programme is the Storage User Roundtable hosted by SNIA Europe in conjunction with SANBoard and Guide Share Europe. This is a unique chance for selected end users to take part in a dynamic, interactive discussion around topics such as solid state storage, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), data protection and cloud computing, and is an opportunity to understand how the latest storage technologies can help them achieve their business targets and make their IT infrastructures more effective and efficient. SNW Europe will once again be hosting the BITKOM Anwenderforum on the 27th October as an integral part of the conference program and there will also be a special series of presentations from members of the SNIA Cloud Storage Initiative.
Over the two days keynote presentations will be delivered by leading industry speakers including:
• Kevin Wittmer, Director of Enterprise Solutions Marketing , Dell
• Arnaud Christoffel, Vice President, Backup & Recovery Systems Division, EMC Europe
• Marcus Schneider, Director Product Segment Data Protection, Fujitsu Technology Solutions
• Garry Veale, Vice President, StorageWorks Division, EMEA, HP
• Bob Cancilla, Vice President, Storage Platform, Systems and Technology Group, IBM
• Richard Villars, Vice President, Storage Systems & Executive Strategies, IDC
• Scott Tracy, Director of CoreIO, Oracle Open Storage Software Group
• Sean Derrington, Director Enterprise Product Management, Symantec
Paul Trowbridge continues “As last year was such a success, we now know that this formula is a hit. We know what works and are using this information to continue to build a stronger, more successful set of events that really will be unmissable.”
Trowbridge’s enthusiasm is echoed by new sponsors to the event in 2010:
“Virtualisation is transforming the server and storage markets and we see integration between the two becoming increasingly important. The organisers have done a great job of bundling all the relevant topics under one roof. We are looking forward to leveraging the event to not only meet customers and prospects but also to engage in conversations with key technology partners,” said Werner Knoblich, VP and General Manager Europe, Middle East, Africa at Red Hat.
“This is a relevant platform for Trend Micro to drive interest in our new solutions portfolio geared towards securing virtualized IT environments. The expanded scope to include Virtualization World means that we will meet the right delegates at this event,” said Frank Schwittay, Managing Director Central Europe at Trend Micro.
