Cortado Leverages Apple’s iOS Innovations for Business

May 2015 by Marc Jacob

Cortado Mobile Solutions releases the new version of its enterprise mobility solution Cortado Corporate Server. The latest version of the on-premises solution, 7.4, combines iOS 8 business capabilities with the Windows server backend, making enterprise mobility easier and more secure than ever before. With Cortado Corporate Server 7.4, apps from the App Store or self-developed apps can now be used without any further adaptations or SDKs. In addition, secure web and e-mail domains can be managed via Active Directory, which ensures that all data accessible within these domains can only be opened within the secure company container. Cortado Corporate Server 7.4 also offers automated document push for easy rollout of important information to devices, as well as the secure sharing of files with external collaborators and suppliers with its on-premises file sharing.

With the Cortado Corporate 7.4, business data can be fully separated, managed and secured from private data. Users can continue to use Apple’s original apps like Mail and Safari for day-to-day business use, as well as any other app from the App Store plus self-developed apps, all without the need for any additional modifications.

In addition to managed apps, the new version enables IT admins to also define trusted web and e-mail domains for iOS 8 devices. Files from these defined web domains can then be opened only with the managed apps in the secure enterprise container. Files from a non-trusted domain can only be opened outside the corporate container. If the user drafts an e-mail addressed to a non-managed e-mail domain the sender is notified, reminding them to adhere to compliance requirements.

Another new feature is Document Push, which allows important updated documents like maintenance information or price lists to be pushed automatically to users’ devices. This means that employees are always sure that they are accessing the most up-to-date and correct information.

The enhanced on-premises file sharing feature enables secure communication with external collaborators and suppliers. Access to the corporate file system for such contacts can be granted and revoked as required via Active Directory.

Cortado has also expanded the use of VPN, with two new VPN variants for corporate and BYOD concepts, adding to the existing options. With always-on VPN, the device is consistently and securely connected to the corporate network – just like a BlackBerry. In addition, per-app VPN, which was made possible with the F5 partnership, is also available.

The new version also provides iPhone and iPad users with secure, user-authenticated mobile printing to any available network printer from any app. Printing starts at the chosen printer only when the user has authenticated themselves via their mobile device.
