Blue Coat Positioned in Leaders Quadrant of Secure Web Gateway Magic Quadrant

June 2011 by Marc Jacob

Blue Coat Systems, Inc., a provider of Web security and WAN optimization solutions, today announced that it has been positioned in the Leaders Quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateway, by research and advisory firm Gartner, Inc. The Blue Coat® Web security portfolio provides industry-leading, real-time protection against Web-based malware and other malicious content for any user in any location at any time.

The Blue Coat Web security portfolio includes both appliance-based and cloud-based solutions for organizations of all sizes. The Blue Coat ProxySG® appliances provide Web security and a flexible policy framework at the corporate gateway that allow enterprises to align IT policies with business requirements. The Internet-delivered Blue Coat Cloud Service provides the same enterprise-class Web security to all users, including remote workers, at any time.

Both products are supported by the Blue Coat WebPulse™ service, a collaborative defense in which the discovery of new and evolving malware by any user immediately protects all users. The WebPulse service analyzes more than 2 billion URL requests per week from 75 million diverse users worldwide and provides a comprehensive view of the Web ecosystem for tracking and blocking malware networks. As new defenses are added to WebPulse, they are immediately available to all users without requiring software updates.

The report positions vendors based on their ability to execute and completeness of vision. According to Gartner, "The Completeness of Vision axis captures the technical quality and completeness of the product and organizational characteristics, such as how well the vendor understands this market, its history of innovation, its marketing and sales strategies, and its geographic presence." A vendor’s positioning on the ability to execute axis is determined in part by evaluating the vendor’s overall viability, sales execution/pricing, customer experience and market responsiveness and track record.
