Algosec extends policy management support to eight new network security devices

December 2009 by Marc Jacob

AlgoSec announced the release of the AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer® 5.3 featuring the new AlgoSec Extension Framework, out-of-the-box support for eight more security devices, and number of other new features including unique Rule Consolidation Analysis.

The AlgoSec Extension Framework enables AlgoSec customers and partners to easily expand policy management capabilities to virtually any new security device without the burden of performing separate coding procedures for integrations. This new technology makes it possible for users to quickly add support for new network devices through a simple configuration change, thereby eliminating complex and time-intensive coding processes. And through AlgoSec’s open forums, new device configurations can be shared across the entire AlgoSec community, enabling reuse by vendors, channel partners and end-users.

AlgoSec has leveraged this framework to add out-of-the-box support for eight more network security devices including:

· Fortinet Fortigate firewalls

· BlueCoat proxy and web-filtering devices

· Juniper JunOS-based routers and SRX firewalls

· Juniper Secure Access (SSL VPN)

· McAfee Firewall Enterprise (Sidewinder)

· Palo Alto Networks firewalls

· StoneSoft StoneGate firewalls

· Linux netfilter/iptables firewalls

The newly added network security devices bolster AlgoSec’s existing stable of supported devices from vendors including Check Point, Cisco and Juniper.

“2009 is by far our best year ever – in sales, profitability, and recruiting top talent. We’ve been able to maintain fast growth even during these challenging economic times by listening intently to the needs of our customers and partners and incorporating their feedback. This is the fuel for driving new product directions,” said Yuval Baron, co-founder and CEO of AlgoSec. “The AlgoSec Extension Framework and the expanded out-of-the-box support for several new devices are a result of that two-way relationship and offer our customers and partners the ability to more easily harness the unique intelligent automation capabilities we bring to the market.”

Another new capability in AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer 5.3, Rule Consolidation Analysis, adds yet another layer of innovation to AlgoSec’s intelligent automation technology for security policy cleanup and optimization. Through Rule Consolidation Analysis the AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer will detect similar rules that can be consolidated into one rule, allowing administrators to further minimize the firewall policy.

Also in AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer 5.3, users will see refinements to the Web GUI that enable management of all administration tasks from the Web browser. Specific improvements to the Web GUI include: change monitoring that allows for viewing of all changes on all devices; easy backup and restore of configuration settings and accumulated firewall rule and object usage; and, the inclusion of a first time setup wizard.

Together, these new features, functionality and support capabilities greatly expand the opportunity for customers to harness the power of the AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer’s intelligent automation of firewall, router, and VPN policies. With AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer 5.3, it has never been easier for businesses and their security providers to effectively manage multi-firewall, multi-vendor security environments.

Availability: The AlgoSec Extension Framework and AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer v5.3 are both available now.
